Great service from your pipe supplier can come in many different forms, whether it’s offering custom miter cuts or providing fast, efficient delivery on a perfectly loaded truck. But all the miter cuts and quickly shipped steel pipe in the world won’t help if you can’t properly weld them together.
Torch beveling is an almost essential service every steel pipe supplier should provide its customers. Steel pipe with a 14” OD (outside diameter) or greater can be torch beveled to create a nice plumb fit for a clean weld later, as well as deburring for safety and aesthetic reasons.
Below is an example of the process we go through when American Piping Products torch bevels a pipe. The actual setting up of our torch beveler and the journey it makes around the pipe as it cuts takes some time, so we’ve sped up the procedure as you’ll see when you watch.
Once the gas valves are closed and the cutting is completed, all slag and flaking is cleaned off the new edge while the machine returns to it start position. The beveler is then removed from the pipe, and the bevel is inspected for any defects that might affect welding.

We've told you a little about our state-of-the-art addition to our Houston-based steel pipe-cutting saws before. Now we'd like to give you a glimpse of how the Hem VT-140HA-60 saw works and the kinds of miter cuts it can make.

With laser-aligned precision, computer-controlled cutting, and a full spread of powerful locking-clamps, the word "saw" is just scratching the surface of what our Houston yard is capable of. The cutting process is fully automated and we operate this CNC saw with a touch-screen (versus the industry-standard maze of buttons and levers).

We're thankful for another year on the books as the Holiday season kicks into full swing. When this time of year rolls around, we take a step back from tensile strength, beveling, miter cuts and wall thickness and we focus on giving back and saying thanks. This year, in lieu of client gifts, we decided to give back in a different way.
We're supporting the police officers, firefighters and EMS workers who often go unthanked. They risk life and limb to protect, serve and even save each and every one of us. Al Rheinnecker, CEO of American Piping Products, was recently named to the 2012 "Who's Who in Energy" by the American City Business Journals. Recipients were chosen from seven growing energy markets including Dallas, Denver, Houston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, St. Louis and San Antonio.

First things first – the basics of the 4130 series
One of the main reasons we started stocking the 4130s was its strength-to-weight ratio. Below are a few basics of 4130 series pipe – detailing what makes this pipe so strong.

Market basics
The two primary grades of alloy pipe in the energy sector are 4130 and 4140. These are both Chrome/Moly Alloys similar to P11, but with higher carbon content. At American Piping Products, we’ll be stocking both.
Many industries use this material as feeder stock for products controlled by API 6A, 5CT and high 5L-X grades. And while the material can be heat-treated to make a variety of properties, we find that most of our customers are very specific about the grade and the properties they want, so typically, substitution is not possible. So it’s very important to work with a pipe distributor that you trust will find and deliver exactly what you want.
4130 pipe is ideal for high-pressure fluid needs
Examples of applications for the strong but relatively light 4100 series pipe include manifolds, cement manifolds and lines, blowout preventers and flow lines, mud lines, hammer unions, well servicing pumps, choke and kill applications, BOPs, standpipe, transmission lines, swivel joints, and fracking needs.
Heat-treating 4130 and 4140 basicsSecondary heat-treating is normal for this product. Normalized products can be Quenched and Tempered to L80 or P110. P110 can be tempered down to make L80, and L80 can be re-quenched and tempered to make P110.
Both L80 and P110 can be normalized back to the base properties. There is one problem though – each time you process, you add cost to your material. So you’ll want to keep that in mind when ordering 4100 product.

St. Louis, MO (June 22, 2012) - The piping experts that comprise the sales team at American Piping Products "left their phones at the door" and attended a full day of development sessions at the Chase Park Plaza in St. Louis, Missouri. This included members of the APP team from St. Louis, Houston, Philadelphia, Chicago and Baton Rouge. The meeting was held Friday, June 15 and is set to be an annual event.
"It was great to gather the entire team under one roof," said Matt Danis, Chief Financial Officer at APP. "What we sacrificed in not 'answering the phones' for a day, we gained tenfold in improving our strategy to better service our clients."

Tim Kraulidis, a 25-year industry veteran, will be covering the Midwest as an outside salesperson. Kraulidis has extensive experience in pipe, fittings and valves and has worked in manufacturing and distribution. APP also hired Joel Cairo, who has been in the industry since 1997. In addition to working with carbon products, Cairo has deep experience supplying chrome and high-nickel alloys to oil refineries and process plants. Rob Percher joined the Chicago office as well. Percher has long-term mechanical sales experience.

Today the board of directors of American Piping Products, Inc. (“APP”) unanimously approved the promotion of Al Rheinnecker to the position of Chief Executive Officer.
Mr. Rheinnecker’s more than three decades of experience in the steel pipe industry will be more important to the company than ever in his new role. “We don’t put a lot of stock in titles and formality at APP,“ said Mr. Rheinnecker. “I don’t care what it says on my door, I’m here to help this company and its people to grow and succeed.”
Mr. Rheinnecker’s new role was announced at a company meeting in the St. Louis office, where the APP team greeted the news with congratulations and excitement. “This is a great recognition of Al’s years of hard work at APP, and of the leadership and direction he provides to the entire organization,” said Jeff Frient of Edgewater Growth Capital Partners.
Mr. Rheinnecker’s new duties are effectively immediately.
St. Louis, Mo (February 2011) – American Piping Products, Inc. (“APP”) has completed a supply contract of 164,300 ft (81 miles) to PDVSA in record time. APP delivered the 10,515 tons of 26” X 0.469” to the La Salina Project of PDVSA Gas Division Caracas. APP supplied a total of 50 KM in two record scheduled deliveries, the first being 10 KM delivered to the Port of Houston within 30 days and the second being 40 KM within 60 days to the Port. The product supplied was for the ULE-AMUAY pipeline of PDVSA Gas, being installed between Bajo Grande and Ule; which will supply gas to all the refineries in the state of Falcon.
“We were thrilled to participate in a project of this scale for one of the largest energy companies in the world. More importantly, I am proud of the APP team that maintained our service commitment and delivered high quality product within the aggressive time schedule.” said Al Rheinnecker, Chief Operating Officer of APP.
